This may surprise you, but as I reflect on this amazing year of campaigning, I feel like one of the luckiest guys around. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you have done to help Team Kelley in our race for a progressive, inclusive District 2 for everyone.
I know you and I wanted a different outcome. But think about it, nearly 7,000 voters across our diverse District 2 wanted the same outcome we wanted. We’ve created something big here.
My parents encouraged me as a child to take chances for the people around me who needed my help. That is why I got into this race. The outcome of this election isn’t a roadblock to our success, my friends. It is just the beginning!
All year long, we have put people first. We have sent out message after message challenging voters to not only think about the important quality of life issues that matter to all of us, but also to think about equal rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights and immigrant rights.
It feels so good that our message of inclusion has truly resonated. I see proof of it every day when people share their desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
The destructive national political discourse that has become commonplace is tearing people apart. But locally, on this team, we are about the exact opposite. We are about bringing people together. We are about opportunities for everyone, no matter who you are, where you are from, how long you have been here, or who you love!
You and I are too inspired to stop now. We are still a campaign. And while tomorrow may be filled with new possibilities, I know our work here isn’t done. So let’s keep fighting, together, for an inclusive district, a forward-thinking city that offers opportunities for everyone.
My heartfelt love and thanks to every single one of you who generously helped me with a smile, an endorsement, your encouraging words or a warm hug, by holding signs, knocking on thousands of doors, or making thousands of voter phone calls. And most importantly, thank you for voting for our compassionate agenda. YOU are Team Kelley! And I couldn’t possibly be more proud, or more grateful to you.
Your confidence in me has humbled me. And your friendship is something I will forever cherish. You kept this campaign real. You reminded me every day that real people with real issues are the reason I decided to run in the first place.
That won’t change just because we didn’t win. Together, we will continue to fight for these realities. Our passion for inclusivity cannot be contained.
